Erik L. Olson, Principal Architect, handles all aspects of project delivery.
Erik just started with MADI Group this year and is the Principal Architect for the new Sacramento office. Prior to joining MADI, Erik was with another Sacramento firm for a little over 20 years and climbed the ranks from drafter to Job Captain to Project Architect to Associate Principal.
In his spare time, Erik enjoys time with his family. He coaches his son’s Little League team on the same fields that he played on as a child. He and his wife, Holly, were High School sweethearts and enjoy spending time with friends and family in the same neighborhood in which they grew up.
Erik believes that as Architects we are charged with the responsibility to not only enhance the built environment, but to honor the materials with which we design and build. He likes to use a quote based on the philosophy of Louis Kahn that is simply “Do not try to convince a brick to not be a brick. Rather help that brick to be the best brick that it can be”.
“You say to a brick, 'What do you want, brick?' And brick says to you, 'I like an arch.' And you say to brick, 'Look, I want one, too, but arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel.' And then you say: 'What do you think of that, brick?' Brick says: 'I like an arch.'”
- Louis Kahn
On a less philosophical level, Erik believes in a partnering approach to project delivery. The idea is simple. Consider each project “our” project, not “your” project. It is this personal approach to each project that consistently produces successful projects.
